An elder mind...

Our Mission

Seniors ready to serve their communities

The mission of SeniorsConnect is to assist motivated elders to strengthen their connections with each other and join forces for richer lives in community engagement. Our programs promote better health, self-confidence, and leadership skills among seniors, helping them to form ongoing support and action teams.

Train the Trainers Initiative

To expand the reach of our programs, SeniorsConnect is now creating a seven-session Train the Trainers program. Currently we are researching and contacting potential co-sponsoring partners, in the elder services community, for this series. Trainees will learn to lead our elder empowerment workshops in teams of three. For details, see News.

About Us

America Needs Healthy Senior Leaders

The U.S. population is aging dramatically. Rejecting the view of seniors as burdens on society, we see them as a major untapped social resource. Seniors have skills, wisdom, and time to contribute. Capable seniors can meet pressing needs such as youth mentoring, help for frail elders and the disabled, skill sharing, and political activism. But few seniors can do this alone and sustain themselves effectively over time.

The Power of Seniors Connected

In each workshop series, we bring together formerly isolated elder neighbors and provide multiple opportunities for them to develop strong, committed bonds with each other. Themes and activities are chosen that enable participants to affirm their particular gifts and thereby gain confidence.

Natural Wellness

Medical costs are soaring. But most of America’s common illnesses can be prevented or treated using the proven, natural combination of a positive attitude, social relationships with a purpose, proper nutrition, and enjoyable exercise. Good nutrition by itself can boost mental ability and energy. We simplify complex diet information for easy understanding and include physical movement such as Tai Chi and dance in our programs.

Leaders in Community Engagement

With improving wellness and confidence, our seniors become eager to share their expanding resources. Toward the end of our introductory workshop series, participants form teams and begin a customized program of community engagement. Team members decide to support each other in appropriate initiatives of community service or activism.

Senior Leaders Need Your Help

To serve the growing number of potential senior leaders, we offer a Workshop Development Kit for replicating our program. It gives practical details on:

bulletBuilding a support team for the leader, including one or two assistants
bulletChoosing a site and participants who can realistically succeed
bulletStep by step planning guide for pre-training and actual training phases
bulletField tested, recommended workshop themes and activities
bulletUsing timed listening exchanges for bonding and confidence building

“As a member of an ongoing SeniorsConnect team, our program graduates strengthen their abilities to: connect, grow, and make a difference !”

Polly Allen, Founder and Executive Director

"After the Pilots workshop, I started a group in my building, & we're going strong. I taught basics to Tess and Jean. Tess taught me and Jean another skill. We've brought others in. Now we share supplies and support, along with all our skills; we make things together, and we have a lot of fun."
